The 2026 Hokkaido Selection Sale has catalogued 305 yearlings for this year's edition. While the sale was held over two days with a Premium Session last year, it has returned to its original two-day format without a Premium Session this year.
Of the 305 carefully selected yearlings, 85 lots (27.9%) are either out of black-type mares and/or from black-type families.
Japan's leading domestic sires, Equinox (JPN) and Kitasan Black (JPN), currently stand at the country's highest advertised stud fee of ¥25,000,000 (US$156,250), making them the most expensive sires represented in this year's catalogue.
First-crop sire Equinox will be represented by three fillies. Lot 58 is out of Secondary Market (USA) and is a half-sister to graded stakes-placed Gene King (JPN).
Kitasan Black will have six yearlings in the catalogue. Lot 123 is a colt out of Group 3 winner Fahan Mura (USA), whose produce includes three-time JRA winner Ri Thir Chonaill (GB), by Kingman (GB). Lot 161 is out of multiple Listed winner Teorema (JPN), whose first foal, by Contrail (JPN), sold for ¥68,200,000 (US$426,250) at the 2025 Hokkaido Training Sale.
First season two-year-old sire Efforia (JPN) has already sired five JRA winners from 15 runners. He will be represented by 12 yearlings in the catalogue.
Palace Malice (USA), who began his stud career in Japan in 2024, will be represented by his first crop at this year's yearling sales. He has the largest draft among first-crop sires, with 13 yearlings catalogued for the Hokkaido Selection Sale.
MAX Training Farm will offer the largest draft of the sale, with 27 yearlings. Defending leading consignor Chestnut Farm will offer 18 yearlings.
Tobino Bokujo will offer three yearlings, highlighted by Lot 214, a colt out of Happy Value (JPN). He is a half-brother to the 2026 Yushun Himba (Japanese Oaks) winner Juryoku Pierrot (JPN).
The Hokkaido Selection Sale will take place at the Hokkaido Sales Complex on July 20 and 21.
