2026 Hokkaido Training Sale Review

The 2026 Hokkaido Training Sale catalogued 78 juveniles and was held on Tuesday, May 19th, at Sapporo Racecourse.

As the smallest edition in its history, the sale grossed ¥347,160,000 (US$2,169,750), with an average price of ¥5,985,517 (US$37,409) and a median price of ¥4,950,000 (US$30,938). Compared to 2025, the median and average prices declined by 7.2% and 19.3%, respectively. However, the clearance rate rose to 78.4%, up 6.1 percentage points from last year.

The sale topper was Lot 38, a colt by Roger Barows (JPN) out of Top Gal (JPN). He was sold for ¥21,450,000 (US$134,063) to Naoya Miyata of Yamasaki Stable Co., Ltd. The colt was one of three juveniles that recorded a final-furlong time of 10.8 seconds during the breeze-up session at Sapporo Racecourse on Tuesday.

Gates Stable sold seven horses for a total of ¥43,780,000 (US$273,625) to claim the title of leading consignor. Yoshizawa Stable also sold seven juveniles, for a total of ¥40,920,000 (US$255,750), to finish second among consignors.

N & Star LLC sold 14 horses for a total of ¥81,070,000 (US$506,688), making it the sale's leading seller.

The 2026 JRA two-year-old racing season will begin on June 6, the weekend following the Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby).
