The Hokkaido September Sale started on Monday, September 15. During the three-day sale, 427 yearlings were sold, grossing ¥2,188,450,000 (US$14,589,667). The average price was ¥5,125,176 (US$34,168), a 2.5% decline from 2024. The clearance rate also dropped slightly to 79.96%. The median price remained the same as last year at ¥4,400,000 (US$29,333).
Three-time Group 1 winner Efforia (JPN) was represented by his first crop at the sale. All seven offered were sold. The sale-topper was Lot 191, a filly by Efforia out of the Deep Impact (JPN) mare Blanche Dame (JPN), making her a half-sister to three-time JRA winner Altoum (JPN). Her granddam was Group 1 winner Sleepless Night (JPN). Koji Yasuhara secured the filly for ¥24,200,000 (US$161,333). The second-highest lot was also by Efforia: Lot 489, out of two-time JRA winner Satono Onyx (JPN), which sold for ¥23,100,000 (US$154,000). Efforia finished as the leading sire of the sale by gross, with ¥78,210,000 (US$521,400). Chuwa Wizard (JPN) followed closely with ¥73,260,000 (US$488,400) from the sale of 10 of his first crop.
Evergreen Sales Consignment was the leading consignor at the 2025 Hokkaido September Sale, selling 20 yearlings for a total of ¥87,120,000 (US$580,800). Mombetsu Bokujo Co., Ltd. followed, also selling 20 yearlings, for ¥85,360,000 (US$569,067).
The Japan Racing Association (JRA) purchased 10 yearlings for a total of ¥85,800,000 (US$572,000), retaining its title as the sale's leading buyer. These yearlings will undergo breaking and pre-training at JRA facilities before being reoffered at the 2026 JRA Breeze-Up Sale.
Six of the seven yearling sales in Japan have now been completed, with the Hokkaido Autumn Sale, scheduled for October 13-14, remaining as the final one.
