2025 Hokkaido Training Sale Preview

The 2025 Hokkaido Training Sale has catalogued 103 juveniles, making it the second smallest edition in the past decade. As was the case last year, both the breeze-up and the sale will take place on the same day. Ahead of the sale on May 20th, rehearsal breeze-ups were held in early April at BTC Urakawa and Hidaka Ikusei Kosha.

At BTC Urakawa, a filly by Firenze Fire (USA) recorded the fastest furlong time of 10.8 seconds. Lot 66, she is out of the Daiwa Major (JPN) mare Regina Un (JPN), whose three-year-old daughter by Shanghai Bobby (USA) is already a winner in the NAR.

Lot 33, a filly by Saturnalia (JPN), was the only other horse to clock under 11.0 seconds on the day, recording a furlong time of 10.9. She is the first foal out of Freak Out (JPN), a winner at the JRA.

At Hidaka Ikusei Kosha, two juveniles from the same vendor, N & star LLC, shared the fastest furlong time of 10.9 seconds. They were Lot 45, a colt by Four Wheel Drive (USA), and Lot 83, a filly by Tower of London (JPN).

A leading first season sire contender Contrail (JPN) is offering one horse in the sale. Lot 7, a colt out of multiple black-type winner Teorema (JPN). Contrail is currently standing for ¥18,000,000 (US$124,138) at Shadai Stallion Station and has 130 two-year-olds registered in Japan.

The sale will take place at Sapporo Racecourse on Tuesday, May 20th at 1:30 pm, following the breeze-up session, which begins at 9:00 am.
