January JRA Graded Stakes Review

In the 2000m G3 Nakayama Kimpai on the turf at Nakayama Racecourse on January 6th, fifth favorite Licancabur(JPN) by Silver State(JPN) earned his first graded stakes title in the first race day of the year. Kukuna(JPN) by King Kamehameha(JPN) was half a length back in second. Meiner Chrysola(JPN) by Screen Hero(JPN) was a neck back in third.

In the 1600m G3 Kyoto Kimpai on the turf at Kyoto Racecourse on January 6th, Corepetiteur(JPN) by Just a Way(JPN) posted a decent upset to earn his first graded stakes victory. Session(JPN) by Silver State(JPN) was half a length back in second. Tudo de Bom(JPN) by Isla Bonita(JPN) was a head back in third.

In the 1600m G3 Fairy Stakes on the turf at Nakayama Racecourse on January 7th, fifth favorite Ipheion(JPN) by Epiphaneia(JPN) won her first graded stakes in a thrilling finish with the top four horses finishing with only a neck between each of them. Mask All Win(JPN) by Drefong(USA) was a neck back in second. Love Squall(JPN) by Duramente(JPN) was a neck back in third.

In the 1600m G3 Shinzan Kinen on the turf at Kyoto Racecourse on January 8th, third favorite Noble Roger(USA) by Palace Malice(USA) romped home to earn his first graded stakes win. Ecoro Bloom(JPN) by Daiwa Major(JPN) was a length and a quarter back in second. Water Licht(JPN) by Drefong(USA) was a head back in third.

In the 2000m G3 Aichi Hai on the turf at Kokura Racecourse on January 13th, post-time favorite Mikki Gorgeous(JPN) by Mikki Rocket(JPN) notched her first graded victory in her belt. Tagano Passion(JPN) by King Kamehameha(JPN) was half a length back in second. Costa Bonita(JPN) by Isla Bonita(JPN) was another three-quarters of a length back in third.

In the 2400m G2 Nikkei Shinshun Hai on the turf at Kyoto Racecourse on January 14th, favorite Blow the Horn(JPN) by Epiphaneia(JPN) won his first graded stakes win on his second try. Savona(JPN) by Kizuna(JPN) was a length back in second. Satono Glanz(JPN) by Satono Diamond(JPN) finished a length and a quarter back in third.

In the 2000m G3 Keisei Hai on the turf at Nakayama Racecourse on January 14th, Danon Decile(JPN) by Epiphaneia(JPN) posted a slight upset while earning his first graded stakes title. Urban Chic(JPN) by Suave Richard(JPN) was three-quarters of a length back in second place. Cosmo Buddleja(JPN) by Gold Ship(JPN) was a neck back in third.

In the 2200m G2 American Jockey Club Cup on the turf at Nakayama Racecourse on January 21st, gelding Chuck Nate(JPN) by Heart's Cry(JPN) earned his first graded stakes win. Boccherini(JPN) by King Kamehameha(JPN) was a nose back in second, which had to be a thrill for Mr. Kaneko, who owns both. Chrominance(JPN) by Lord Kanaloa(JPN) was a length and a quarter back in third.

In the 1800m G2 Tokai Stakes on the dirt at Kyoto Racecourse on January 21st, second favorite William Barows(JPN) by Mikki Isle(JPN) stuck near the front to finally get his graded stakes win after many tries. Omega Guiness(JPN) by Logotype(JPN) was a length back in second. Victipharus(JPN) by Heart's Cry(JPN) was another length and a half back in third.

In the 1400m G3 Negishi Stakes on the dirt at Tokyo Racecourse on January 28th, the favorite Emperor Wakea(JPN) by Lord Kanaloa(JPN) rewarded his backers while earning his first graded stakes win. Arms Reign(JPN) by Copano Rickey(JPN) was two and a half lengths back in second. Sunrise Flame(JPN) by Drefong(USA) was another half a length back in third.

In the 1200m G3 Silk Road Stakes on the turf at Kyoto Racecourse on January 28th, second favorite Lugal(JPN) by Duramente(JPN) spoiled the day for favorite Aguri(JPN) by Caravaggio(USA) when he finished first by three lengths. Eternal Time(JPN) by Lord Kanaloa(JPN) was another half a length back in third.
