February JRA Graded Stakes Review

In the 1600m G3 Tokyo Shimbun Hai on the turf at Tokyo Racecourse on February 4th, Sakura Toujours(JPN) by Neo Universe(JPN) upset the day and won his first graded stakes race. Win Carnelian(JPN) by Screen Hero(JPN) was a length back in second. Ho O Biscuits(JPN) by Mind Your Biscuits(USA) was a neck back in third.

In the 1800m G3 Kisaragi Sho on the turf at Kyoto Racecourse on February 4th, favorite Byzantine Dream(JPN) by Epiphaneia(JPN) captured his first graded stakes victory. Water Licht(JPN) by Drefong(USA) was a nose back in second. Shivers(JPN) by Maurice(JPN) was another nose back in third.

In the 1600m G3 Queen Cup on the turf at Tokyo Racecourse on February 10th, favorite Queen's Walk(JPN) by Kizuna(JPN) got up in time to earn her first graded title. Arsenaal(JPN) by Epiphaneia(JPN) was a neck back in second. Rouge Suerte(JPN) by Heart's Cry(JPN) was a further length and a quarter back in third.

In the 2200m G2 Kyoto Kinen on the turf at Kyoto Racecourse on February 11th, third favorite Pradaria(JPN) by Deep Impact(JPN) held off the favorite to win his third graded stakes win. Bellagio Opera(JPN) by Lord Kanaloa(JPN) was three-quarters of a length back in second. Babbitt(JPN) by Nakayama Festa(JPN) was two more lengths back in third.

In the 1800m G3 Kyodo News Hai on the turf at Tokyo Racecourse on February 11th, Justin Milano(JPN) by Kizuna(JPN) upset last year's Champion Two-Year-Old by a length and a half. Jantar Mantar(JPN) by Palace Malice(USA) had to settle for second, suffering his first defeat. Power Hall(JPN) by Suave Richard(JPN) was another length back in third.

In the 3400m G3 Diamond Stakes on the turf at Tokyo Racecourse on February 17th, T O Royal(JPN) by Leontes(JPN) claimed not only his second graded stakes win but also his second Diamond Stakes win. Saliera(JPN) by Deep Impact(JPN) was a neck back in second. Warp Speed(JPN) by Drefong(USA) was a length and a quarter back in third.

In the 1400m G3 Kyoto Himba Stakes on the turf at Kyoto Racecourse on February 17th, second favorite So Dazzling(JPN) by Heart's Cry(JPN) got her neck in front of the post-time favorite to win her first graded stakes race. Namura Clair(JPN) by Mikki Isle(JPN) was forced to settle for second place. Comstock Lode(JPN) by Silver State(JPN) was a length back in third.

In the 1600m G1 February Stakes on the dirt at Tokyo Racecourse on February 18th, Peptide Nile(JPN) by King Kamehameha(JPN) posted a major upset when as the eleventh favorite, he stormed home to earn not just his first graded stakes victory but his first G1 at that. Gaia Force(JPN) by Kitasan Black(JPN) was a length and a quarter back in second. Sekifu(JPN) by Henny Hughes(USA) was a neck back in third.

In the 1800m G3 Kokura Daishoten on the turf at Kokura Racecourse on February 18th, Epiphany(JPN) by Epiphaneia(JPN) earned his first graded stakes title. Long Run(JPN) by Victoire Pisa(JPN) was a length back in second. Selberg(JPN) by Epiphaneia(JPN) was another half a length back in third.

In the 1800m G2 Nakayama Kinen on the turf at Nakayama Racecourse on February 25th, Matenro Sky(JPN) by Maurice(JPN) secured his first graded stakes victory. Dobune(JPN) by Deep Impact(JPN) was two lengths back in second. Geoglyph(JPN) by Drefong(USA) was a neck back in third.

In the 1400m G3 Hankyu Hai on the turf at Hanshin Racecourse on February 25th, favorite Win Marvel(JPN) by I'll Have Another(USA) won his third graded stakes victory of his career. Asakara King(JPN) by Kizuna(JPN) was a nose back in second. Sunrise Ronaldo(JPN) by Harbinger(GB) was another neck back in third.
