October JRA Graded Stakes Review

In the 1200m G1 Sprinters Stakes at Nakayama Racecourse on October 1st, Mama Cocha(JPN) by Kurofune(USA), the full sister to multiple G1 winning white mare Sodashi(JPN), made her first graded stakes win a G1 victory. Mad Cool(IRE) by Dark Angel(IRE) was a nose back in second. Namura Clair(JPN) by Mikki Isle(JPN) was a length back in third.

In the 1600m G3 Saudi Arabia Royal Cup at Tokyo Racecourse on October 7th, Gonbade Qabus(JPN) by Bricks and Mortar(USA) came from the back of the pack to earn his first graded stakes title. Bond Girl (JPN) by Daiwa Major(JPN) was two lengths back in second. Strauss(JPN) by Maurice(JPN) was a neck back in third.

In the 1800m G2 Mainichi Okan at Tokyo Racecourse on October 8th, Elton Barows(JPN) by Deep Brillante(JPN) posted a decent upset to earn his second graded stakes title. Songline(JPN) by Kizuna(JPN) had to settle for second by a nose. Schnell Meister(GER) by Kingman(GB) was another nose back in third.

In the 2400m G2 Kyoto Daishoten at Kyoto Racecourse on October 9th, Pradaria(JPN) by Deep Impact(JPN) stalked the pace and got his neck in front to earn his second graded stakes win of his career. Boccherini(JPN) by King Kamehameha(JPN) was a neck back in second. Deep Bond(JPN) by Kizuna(JPN) was another three and a quarter lengths back in third.

In the 1800m G2 Fuchu Himba Stakes at Tokyo Racecourse on October 14th, Divina(JPN) by Maurice(JPN) went wire to wire to finally get her first graded stakes win after several close calls. Rouge Eveil(JPN) by Just a Way(JPN) had to settle for second by a nose. Lilac(JPN) by Orfevre(JPN) was another neck back in third.

In the 2000m G1 Shuka Sho at Kyoto Racecourse on October 15th, favorite Liberty Island(JPN) by Duramente(JPN) made it look easy as she completed the 2023 Filly Triple Crown. Masked Diva(JPN) by Rulership(JPN) closed like a freight train to finish a length back in second. Harper(JPN) by Heart's Cry(JPN) was two and a half lengths back in third.

In the 1600m G2 Fuji Stakes at Tokyo Racecourse on October 21st, Namur(JPN) by Harbinger(GB) finally gets her graded stakes win after two full years of coming so close. Red Mon Reve(JPN) by Lord Kanaloa(JPN) was a length and a quarter back in second. So Valiant(JPN) by Orfevre(JPN) was another two lengths and a half back in third.

In the 3000m G1 Kikuka Sho at Kyoto Racecourse on October 22nd, Durezza(JPN) by Duramente(JPN) stayed right there with the pace all around the new Kyoto track to make his first graded stakes win a classic one. G1 Japanese Derby winner Tastiera(JPN) by Satono Crown(JPN) was three and a half lengths back in second. G1 Satsuki Sho winner Sol Oriens(JPN) by Kitasan Black(JPN) was another length and a half back in third.

In the 1600m G3 Artemis Stakes at Tokyo Racecourse on October 28th, Cervinia(JPN) by Harbinger(GB) earned her first graded stakes win of her budding career after stalking the pace expertly. Safira(JPN) by Heart's Cry(JPN) was a length and three-quarters back in second. Steelblue(JPN) by Rulership(JPN) was another half a length back in third.

In the 1400m G2 Swan Stakes at Kyoto Racecourse on October 28th, Win Greatest(JPN) by Screen Hero(JPN) upset the race as the 10th favorite to finally earn his first graded stakes win after many close calls in the past. La La Christine(JPN) by Mikki Isle(JPN) was a neck back in second. Lotus Land(USA) by Point of Entry(USA) was three-quarters of a length back in third.

The 2000m G1 Tenno Sho Autumn at Tokyo Racecourse on October 29th showcased Equinox(JPN)'s immense talent. The son of Kitasan Black(JPN) toyed with the pacesetters during the early portion of the race before launching into gear in the stretch to win by the easiest of two and a half lengths in front of his closest rival. Justin Palace(JPN) by Deep Impact(JPN) had to settle for second place in this Emperor's Cup after winning the spring renewal. Prognosis(JPN), also by Deep Impact(JPN), was third by a length and a quarter.
