December JRA Graded Stakes Review

In the 3600m G2 Stayers Stakes at Nakayama Racecourse on December 2nd, Iron Barows(JPN) by Orfevre(JPN) went wire to wire to earn his first graded stakes win. T O Royal(JPN) by Leontes(JPN) was two and a half lengths back in second. Meiner Virtus(JPN) by Screen Hero(JPN) was a neck back in third.

In the 2000m G3 Challenge Cup at Hanshin Racecourse on December 2nd, Bellagio Opera(JPN) by Lord Kanaloa(JPN) earned his second graded stakes title. Boccherini(JPN) by King Kamehameha(JPN) was a nose back in second. Izu Jo no Kiseki(JPN) by Epiphaneia(JPN) was a length and a quarter back in third.

In the 1800m G1 Champions Cup on dirt at Chukyo Racecourse on December 3rd, Lemon Pop(USA) by Lemon Drop Kid(USA) continued his dirt domination with a spectacular third G1 win this year. Wilson Tesoro(JPN) by Kitasan Black(JPN) was a length and a quarter back in second. Dura Erede(JPN) by Duramente(JPN) was a neck back in third.

In the 2000m G3 Chunichi Shimbun Hai at Chukyo Racecourse on December 9th, Yamanin Salvum(JPN) by Isla Bonita (JPN) earned his first graded stakes win. Hayayakko(JPN) by King Kamehameha(JPN) was three-quarters of a length back in second. Pin High(JPN) by Mikki Isle(JPN) was a neck back in third.

In the 1200m G3 Capella Stakes on dirt at Nakayama Racecourse on December 10th, T M Tokkyu(JPN) by Lord Kanaloa (JPN) went wire to wire to earn his first graded stakes title. Chase the Dream(JPN) by Lord Kanaloa(JPN) was three lengths back in second. Meta Max(USA) by Into Mischief(USA) was another two lengths back in third.

In the 1600m G1 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies at Hanshin Racecourse on December 10th, Ascoli Piceno(JPN) by Daiwa Major(JPN) earned her first G1 title. Stellenbosch(JPN) by Epiphaneia(JPN) was a neck back in second. Corazon Beat(JPN) by Suave Richard(JPN) was a length and a quarter back in third.

In the 1600m G3 Turquoise Stakes at Nakayama Racecourse on December 16th, Fierce Pride(JPN) by Deep Impact(JPN) earned her first graded stakes victory. Feel Sympathy(JPN) by Behkabad(FR) was a length and a quarter back in second. Miss New York(JPN) by King's Best(USA) was a head back in third.

In the 1600m G1 Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes at Hanshin Racecourse on December 17th, Jantar Mantar(JPN) by Palace Malice(USA) earned his first G1 title. Ecoro Walz(JPN) by Black Tide(JPN) was a length and a quarter back in second. Tagano Elpida(JPN) by Kizuna(JPN) was a neck back in third.

In the 1400m G2 Hanshin Cup at Hanshin Racecourse on December 23rd, Win Marvel(JPN) by I'll Have Another(USA) earned his second graded stakes victory. Grenadier Guards(JPN) by Frankel(GB) was three-quarters of a length back in second. Aguri(JPN) by Caravaggio(USA) was a nose back in third.

In the 2500m G1 Arima Kinen at Nakayama Racecourse on December 24th, Do Deuce(JPN) by Heart's Cry(JPN) ended 2023 the way he started it, in the winners' circle. Stars on Earth(JPN) by Duramente(JPN) was a half-length back in second. Titleholder(JPN) by Duramente(JPN), who led the entire way, was another length back in third.

In the 2000m G1 Hopeful Stakes at Nakayama Racecourse on December 28th, favorite Regaleira(JPN) by Suave Richard(JPN) came roaring from the back of the pack to win her first G1 title and her first graded stakes win. Shin Emperor(FR) by Siyouni(FR) was caught in the final strides and had to settle for second by three-quarters of a length. Sunrise Zipangu(JPN) by Kizuna(JPN) was a further two lengths back in third.
