June JRA Graded Stakes Review

In the 2000m G3 Naruo Kinen at Hanshin Racecourse on June 3rd, fifth favorite Boccherini(JPN) upset the field when the seven-year-old son of King Kamehameha(JPN) hit the wire with the majority of the field but got his neck in front for his third graded stakes title. Feengrotten(JPN) by Black Tide(JPN) had to settle for second place. Admire Hadar(JPN) by Lord Kanaloa(JPN) was another neck back in third.

In the 1600m G1 Yasuda Kinen at Tokyo Racecourse on June 4th, the always-underestimated Songline(JPN) spoiled the day again when she worked her way up to win her second consecutive G1 of the year. This was also the daughter of Kizuna(JPN)'s second consecutive Yasuda Kinen, a rare feat for any horse. Serifos(JPN) by Daiwa Major(JPN) was a length and a quarter back in second. Schnell Meister(GER) by Kingman(GB) was a head back in third.

In the 1800m G3 Epsom Cup at Tokyo Racecourse on June 11th, favorite Justin Cafe(JPN) by Epiphaneia(JPN) came from the back to easily capture his first graded stakes. Rouge Eveil(JPN) by Just a Way(JPN) was a length and a quarter back in second. Matenro Sky(JPN) by Maurice(JPN) was a neck back in third.

In the 1200m G3 Hakodate Sprint Stakes at Hakodate Racecourse on June 11th, Kimiwa Queen(JPN) by Lord Kanaloa(JPN) closed late to earn her first graded stakes win. Jubilee Head(JPN) by Lord Kanaloa(JPN) was three-quarters of a length back in second. Toshin Macau(JPN) by Big Arthur(JPN) was a length and a quarter back in third.

In the 1600m G3 Unicorn Stakes on the dirt at Tokyo Racecourse on June 18th, favorite Perriere(JPN) by Henny Hughes(USA) stalked the pace before pulling clear of the field to earn his first graded stakes win. Sunrise Sieg(JPN) by Epiphaneia(JPN) was three lengths back in second. Brian Sense(JPN) by Hokko Tarumae(JPN) was another length and a quarter back in third.

In the 2000m G3 Mermaid Stakes at Hanshin Racecourse on June 18th, post-time favorite Big Ribbon(JPN) by Rulership(JPN) finally earned her first graded stakes win. Win Mighty(JPN) by Gold Ship(JPN) was three-quarters of a length back in second. Ho O Emmy's(JPN) by Lord Kanaloa(JPN) was another length and a half back in third.

In the 2200m G1 Takarazuka Kinen at Hanshin Racecourse on June 25th, everything went as expected when the world's highest-ranked racehorse Equinox(JPN) by Kitasan Black(JPN), won the day. He did so in spectacular fashion as he came from the back of the pack, swooped around the field, and came charging late down the center of the track. Through Seven Seas(JPN) by Dream Journey(JPN) was a neck back in second. Justin Palace(JPN) by Deep Impact(JPN) was a length back in third.
