The annual Hokkaido Training Sale in Sapporo, Hokkaido, launches the 2023 Hokkaido Sales season. This year's renewal will be held on May 23rd, showcasing 131 two-year-olds in training. The under tack show will be held on May 22nd, and horses will be available for inspections on May 21st.
From the 131 lots, 79 are colts, and 52 are fillies. Some of the highlighted pedigrees are G3 Unicorn Stakes winner Smasher(JPN) 's half-brother Hip 18 by Kizuna(JPN) and dual G3 winner Eighteen Girl(JPN) 's half-brother Hip 44 by Declaration of War(USA).
Seventy-two different stallions are represented in this sale. The late Arrogate(USA), who has had a lot of success in Japan, has one lot in the sale. Orfevre(JPN), the sire of this year's Dubai World Cup winner Ushba Tesoro(JPN), is also included in the sale. Popular dirt stallions like Copano Rickey(JPN), Sinister Minister(USA), and Henny Hughes(USA) have two-year-olds representing them. Stallions set to debut later this year, like Bricks and Mortar(USA) and California Chrome(USA), will be on display. Three popular and successful sons of Deep Impact(JPN) will also have two-year-olds available; Kizuna(JPN), Silver State(JPN), and Real Steel(JPN).
