In the 2000m G3 Nakayama Kimpai at Nakayama Racecourse on January 5th, post time favorite Lagulf(JPN) by Maurice(JPN) rewarded his backers by the tip of his nose, earning his first graded stakes win. He finished third in the G1 Hopeful Stakes in 2021, so seeing him succeed in this way shows maturing talent. Kurino Premium(JPN) by Orfevre(JPN) was second, and Feengrotten(JPN) by Black Tide(JPN) was a head back in third.
In the 1600m G3 Kyoto Kimpai at Chukyo Racecourse on January 5th, Elusive Panther(JPN) by Heart's Cry(JPN) posted a mild upset to earn his second graded stakes win. Air Lolonois(JPN) by King Kamehameha(JPN) was half a length back in second. Presage Lift(JPN) by Harbinger(GB) was another three-quarters of a length back in third.
In the 1600m G3 Shinzan Kinen at Chukyo Racecourse on January 8th, newly minted three-year-olds took flight at the graded stakes level for the first time. Light Quantum(JPN) by Deep Impact(JPN) sat near the back before getting clear to win by a length to claim her first graded stakes title and beat the boys simultaneously. Pace Setting(GB) by Showcasing(GB) ran second. Toho Galleon(JPN) by Real Steel(JPN) was another length back in third.
In the 1600m G3 Fairy Stakes at Nakayama Racecourse on January 9th, a full field of three-year-old fillies were upset by 11th favorite Kita Wing(JPN) by Danon Ballade(JPN) as she claimed her second graded stakes win. Make a Snatch(JPN) by Rulership(JPN) was a head back in second. Speed of Light(JPN) by Lord Kanaloa(JPN) was a length and three-quarters back in third.
In the 2000m G3 Aichi Hai at Chukyo Racecourse on January 14th, favorite Art House(JPN) by Screen Hero(JPN) lived up to the hype to win her second graded stakes race. Icon Tailor(JPN) by Duramente(JPN) was second by a length and three quarters. Maria Elena(JPN) by Kurofune(USA) was another length and a quarter back in third.
In the 2000m G3 Keisei Hai at Nakayama Racecourse on January 15th, Sol Oriens(JPN) by Kitasan Black(JPN) showed a powerful turn of foot when he earned his first graded stakes victory by two and a half lengths. Omega Rich Man(JPN) by Isla Bonita(JPN) was second. Seven Magician(JPN) by Just a Way(JPN) was a length and a quarter back in third.
In the 2200m G2 Nikkei Shinshun Hai at Chukyo Racecourse on January 15th, six-year-old Weltreisende(JPN) by Dream Journey(JPN) who was third in last year's G1 Japan Cup got up to win his second graded stakes victory. King of Dragon(JPN) by Heart's Cry(JPN) was a neck back in second. Pradaria(JPN) by Deep Impact(JPN) was another neck back in third.
In the 1800m G2 Tokai Stakes on dirt at Chukyo Racecourse on January 22nd, second favorite Promised Warrior(JPN) by Majestic Warrior(USA) went wire to wire, earning his first graded stakes victory. Hagino Alegrias(JPN) by Kizuna(JPN) was two lengths back in second. Hayabusa Nandekun(JPN) by Gold Allure(JPN) was another two lengths back in third.
In the 2200m G2 American Jockey Club Cup at Nakayama Racecourse on January 22nd, North Bridge(JPN) by Maurice(JPN) stalked the pace before getting up to win his second graded stakes. Echt(JPN) by Rulership(JPN) was three-quarters of a length back in second. Uberleben(JPN) by Gold Ship(JPN) was another three-quarters of a length back in third.
In the 1400m G3 Negishi Stakes on dirt at Tokyo Racecourse on January 29th, favorite Lemon Pop(USA) by Lemon Drop Kid(USA) finally earned his first graded stakes win. Gilded Mirror(JPN) by Orfevre(JPN) was half a length back in second. Battle Cry(JPN) by Isla Bonita(JPN) was three-quarters of a length back in third.
In the 1200m G3 Silk Road Stakes at Chukyo Racecourse on January 29th, second favorite Namura Clair(JPN) by Mikki Isle(JPN) earned her third graded stakes win. First Force(JPN) by Lord Kanaloa(JPN) was a head back in second. Mad Cool(IRE) by Dark Angel(IRE) was another neck back in third.
