2022 December JRA Graded Stakes Review

In the 3600m G2 Stayers Stakes at Nakayama Racecourse on December 3rd, Silver Sonic(JPN) by Orfevre(JPN) earned redemption after losing his jockey in the G1 Tenno Sho Spring by getting up and holding on to win by three-quarters of a length. Plume d'Or (JPN) by Gold Ship(JPN) was second, and Divine Force(JPN) by Workforce(GB) was a further length and a quarter back in third.

In the 2000m G2 Challenge Cup at Hanshin Racecourse on December 3rd, So Valiant(JPN) by Orfevre(JPN) won the race for the second year in a row. Ruby Casablanca(JPN) by King Kamehameha(JPN) was a length and three quarters back in second. Echt(JPN) by Rulership(JPN) was a neck back in third.

In the 1800m G1 Champions Cup on dirt at Chukyo Racecourse on December 4th, Jun Light Bolt(JPN) by King Kamehameha(JPN) showed himself to be an up-and-coming force on the dirt racing scene, catching Crown Pride(JPN) by Reach the Crown(JPN) by a neck. Crown Pride(JPN) was second, and Hapi(JPN) by Kizuna(JPN) was a length and a quarter back in third.

In the 2000m G3 Chunichi Shimbun Hai at Chukyo Racecourse on December 10th, Killer Ability(JPN) by Deep Impact(JPN) finally found himself back in the winner's circle nearly a year after winning the G1 Hopeful Stakes last December. Matenro Leo(JPN) by Heart's Cry(JPN) held on by a neck to finish second. Icon Tailor(JPN) by Duramente(JPN) was another neck back in third.

In the 1200m G3 Capella Stakes on dirt at Nakayama Racecourse on December 11th, Remake(JPN) by Lani(USA) earned his first graded stakes victory for his sire. Ryuno Yukina(JPN) by Vermilion(JPN) was four lengths back in second. Justin(JPN) by Orfevre(JPN) was a head back in third.

In the 1600m G1 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies at Hanshin Racecourse on December 11th, Liberty Island(JPN) by Duramente(JPN) sat mid-pack before overpowering the competition to earn her first G1 title. Shinryokuka(JPN) by Satono Diamond(JPN) was two and a half lengths back in second. Doe Eyes(JPN) by Rulership(JPN) was a neck back in third.

In the 1600m G3 Turquoise Stakes at Nakayama Racecourse on December 17th, Miss New York(JPN) by King's Best(USA) won the race for the second year in a row. Win Charlotte(JPN) by Screen Hero(JPN) was a neck back in second. Fierce Pride(JPN) by Deep Impact(JPN) was a head back in third.

In the 1600m G1 Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes at Hanshin Racecourse on December 18th, favorite Dolce More(JPN) by Rulership(JPN) kept his neck in front to earn his first G1 title. Danon Touchdown(JPN) by Lord Kanaloa(JPN) was a neck back in second. Labeling(GB) by Frankel(GB) was another neck back in third.

In the 1400m G2 Hanshin Cup at Hanshin Racecourse on December 24th, favorite Diatonic(JPN) by Lord Kanaloa(JPN) kept his nose in front to earn his fifth graded stakes title. Grenadier Guards(JPN) by Frankel(GB) was a nose back in second. Lauda Sion(JPN) by Real Impact(JPN) was half a length back in third.

In the 2500m G1 Arima Kinen at Nakayama Racecourse on December 25th, one of the most anticipated races of the year, Equinox(JPN) by Kitasan Black(JPN) continued to show his elders how special he is by taking a commanding lead in the stretch to win his second G1 title of the year. Boldog Hos(JPN) by Screen Hero(JPN) was two and a half lengths back in second. Geraldina(JPN) by Maurice(JPN) was a length and a half back in third.

In The 2000m G1 Hopeful Stakes at Nakayama Racecourse on December 28th, the final G1 of the year ended with a major upset when 14th favorite Dura Erede(JPN) by Duramente(JPN) kept his nose in front at the wire. Top Knife(JPN) by Declaration of War(USA), who had set the pace the entire way, was second, and King's Reign(JPN) by Rulership(JPN) was a length and a quarter back in third.
