2022 September JRA Graded Stakes Review

In the 1800m, G3 Sapporo Nisai Stakes at Sapporo Racecourse on September 3rd, favorite Dura(JPN) by Duramente(JPN) sat mid-pack before making her move in the stretch to win her first graded stakes race by a length. Doe Eyes(JPN) by Rulership(JPN) was second, and Diamond Hands(JPN) by Satono Diamond(JPN) was another length and a half back in third.

In the 2000m G3 Niigata Kinen at Niigata Racecourse on September 4th, Karate(JPN) by To the Glory(JPN) earned his second graded stakes race by sitting cool mid-pack before storming home to win by a length and three quarters. You Can Smile(JPN) by King Kamehameha(JPN) was second, and Feengrotten(JPN) by Black Tide(JPN) was another three-quarters back in third.

In the 1200m, G3 Kokura Nisai Stakes at Kokura Racecourse on September 4th, London Plan(JPN) by Greater London(JPN) came storming from the back of the pack to snag his first graded stakes victory by three-quarters of a length. Ballerina(JPN) by Daiwa Major(JPN) was second, and Sylpheed Reve(JPN) by American Patriot(USA) was a further half a length back in third.

The 2000m G3 Shion Stakes at Nakayama Racecourse on September 10th was a G1 Shuka Sho trial race. Favorite Stunning Rose(JPN) by King Kamehameha(JPN) stalked the pace and got her neck in front to win her second graded stakes race. Pacesetter Vivace(JPN) by Duramente(JPN) was second, and Lilac(JPN) by Orfevre(JPN) was another neck back in third. All three fillies will qualify for the G1 Shuka Sho on October 16th.

In the 1600m G3 Keisei Hai Autumn Handicap at Nakayama Racecourse on September 11th, the favorite Falconia(JPN) by Deep Impact(JPN) earned his first graded stakes win of his career by stalking the pace and getting his neck in front. Mikki Brillante(JPN) by Deep Brillante(JPN) was second, and Kurino Premium(JPN) by Orfevre(JPN) was half a length back in third.

In the 1200m G2 Centaur Stakes at Chukyo Racecourse on September 11th, favorite and often rank Meikei Yell(JPN) by Mikki Isle(JPN) destroyed the field by two and a half lengths earning her sixth graded stakes title. First Force(JPN) by Lord Kanaloa(JPN) was second, and Sunrise Honest(JPN) by Daiwa Major(JPN) was a length and a quarter back in third.

The 2000m G2 Rose Stakes at Chukyo Racecourse on September 18th was a G1 Shuka Sho trail race. Favorite Art House(JPN) by Screen Hero(JPN) was stalking the pace and held on to win her first graded stakes race. Saliera(JPN) by Deep Impact(JPN) was half a length back in second, and Eglantyne(JPN) by Kizuna(JPN) was a neck back in third. All three fillies earned their way into the G1 Shuka Sho on October 16th.

The 2200m G2 St. Lite Kinen at Nakayama Racecourse on September 19th was a G1 Japanese St. Leger trail race. Third favorite Gaia Force(JPN) by Kitasan Black(JPN) got his head in front of second favorite Ask Victor More(JPN) by Deep Impact(JPN) to earn his first graded stakes win. Rousham Park(JPN) by Harbinger(GB) was three lengths back in third. All three colts made their way into the field of the G1 Kikuka Sho, the Japanese St. Leger, on October 23rd.

In the 2200m, G2 All Comers at Nakayama Racecourse on September 25th royally bred Geraldina(JPN), who is by Maurice(JPN) and out of two-time Horse of the Year Gentildonna(JPN), earned her first graded stakes victory. Robertson Quay(JPN) by Rulership(JPN) was a length and a half back in second, and Win Kiitos(JPN) by Gold Ship(JPN) was a further length and a quarter back in third.

The 2200m G2 Kobe Shimbun Hai at Chukyo Racecourse on September 25th was a G1 Japanese St. Leger trail race. Justin Palace(JPN) by Deep Impact(JPN) earned his first graded stakes victory after stalking the pace and surging to the lead. Yamanin Zest(JPN) by Symboli Kris S(USA) was three and a half lengths back in second, while Boldog Hos(JPN) by Screen Hero(JPN) was half a length back in third. All three colts earned their way into the field of the G1 Kikuka Sho, the Japanese St. Leger, on October 23rd.
