April JRA Graded Stakes Review

In the 1600m G3 Lord Derby Challenge Trophy at Nakayama Racecourse on April 2nd, Time to Heaven(JPN) by Lord Kanaloa(JPN) finally earned his first graded stakes win after having placed in three others over the last 16 months. Vollkommen(JPN) by Victoire Pisa(JPN) was a head back in second, and Darlington Hall(GB) by New Approach(IRE) was a further three-quarters of a length back in third.

In the 2000m, G1 Osaka Hai at Hanshin Racecourse on April 3rd, the regally bred Potager(JPN) by Deep Impact(JPN) earned his first G1 title. Last year's winner Lei Papale(JPN) by Deep Impact(JPN), was a neck back in second and Arrivo(JPN) by Duramente(JPN) was a further nose back in third.

In the 1600m G2 New Zealand Trophy at Nakayama Racecourse on April 9th, Jean Gros(USA) by More Than Ready(USA) went wire to wire to earn his first graded stakes win. Matenro Orion(JPN) by Daiwa Major(JPN) was a head back in second, and Lubeck(JPN) by Harbinger(GB) was a length and a half back in third.

In the 1600m G2 Hanshin Himba Stakes at Hanshin Racecourse on April 9th, Meisho Mimosa(JPN) by Heart's Cry(JPN) posted an upset to win her first graded stakes win by half a length. Andvaranaut(JPN) by King Kamehameha(JPN) was half a length back in second, and Des Ailes(JPN) by Deep Impact(JPN) was a neck back in third.

In the 1600m, G1 Oka Sho(Japanese 1000 Guineas) at Hanshin Racecourse on April 10th saw a minor upset when Stars on Earth(JPN) by Duramente(JPN) got up for the win after a pair of graded stakes places. Water Navillera(JPN) by Silver State(JPN) was a nose back in second, and Namura Clair(JPN) by Mikki Isle(JPN) was a half a length back in third.

In the 1600m G3 Arlington Cup at Hanshin Racecourse on April 16th, favorite Danon Scorpion(JPN) by Lord Kanaloa(JPN) came from behind to win by a neck. Taisei Divine(JPN) by Rulership(JPN) was second, and King Hermes(JPN) by Lord Kanaloa(JPN) was three-quarters of a length back in third.

In the 2000m G1 Satsuki Sho(Japanese 2000 Guineas) at Nakayama Racecourse on April 17th, Geoglyph(JPN) by Drefong(USA) earned his sire his first G1 and classic title. Equinox(JPN) by Kitasan Black(JPN) was a length back in second, and favorite Do Deuce(JPN) by Heart's Cry(JPN) was a further length and a quarter back in third after breaking poorly.

In the 1800m, G3 Antares Stakes on dirt at Hanshin Racecourse on April 17th, Omega Perfume(JPN) by Swept Overboard(USA) continued to prove age was just a number when he came from behind to win his seventh graded stakes win at seven years of age. Favorite Gloria Mundi(JPN) by King Kamehameha(JPN) was a half a length back in second, and New Monument(JPN) by Henny Hughes(USA) was a further length and three quarters back in third.

In the 1800m, G3 Fukushima Himba Stakes at Fukushima Racecourse on April 23rd, Another Lyric(JPN) by Leontes(JPN) came from behind to get her neck in front to earn her first graded stakes win. Kurino Premium(JPN) by Orfevre(JPN) was a neck back in second and Satono Damsel(JPN) by Deep Impact(JPN) was another neck back in third.

In the 2000m G2 Flora Stakes at Tokyo Racecourse on April 24th, Erika Vita(JPN) by King Kamehameha(JPN) posted a mild upset when she chased down the pacesetter to claim her first graded stakes title. Personal High(JPN) by Deep Impact(JPN) was three-quarters of a length back in second after leading the entire way, and Sincere Wish(JPN) by Kizuna(JPN), who had been stalking the pace, was a nose back in third.

In the 1600m G2 Milers Cup at Hanshin Racecourse on April 24th, Soul Rush(JPN) by Rulership(JPN) came from the back of the pack to get up for his first graded stakes win. Ho O Amazon(JPN) by King Kamehameha(JPN) was half a length back in second, and Falconia(JPN) by Deep Impact(JPN) was a neck back in third.

In the 2400m G2 Aoba Sho at Tokyo Racecourse on April 30th, Pradaria(JPN) by Deep Impact(JPN) earned his first graded stakes victory and earned a berth into the G1 Japanese Derby. Lord les Ailes(JPN) by Deep Impact(JPN) was a half-length back in second and Eternal Victory(JPN) by Rulership(JPN) was another half-length back in third.
