The 2022 Hokkaido Sales season starts with the latest renewal of the Hokkaido Training Sale, with 152 two-year-olds cataloged and set to sell on May 24th, 2022, at Sapporo Racecourse.
Maurice(JPN), who has been a break-out success in Australia and Japan, having sired G1 winners in both countries from his first crop, came out of the 2013 Hokkaido Training Sale. The mighty colt went on to win six G1 races in his racing career before becoming a top sire on two continents, showing that the Hokkaido Training Sale can produce international quality runners and breed changing stallion prospects.
In this year's renewal, dual G1 winner Satono Crown(JPN) has by far the most progeny in this year's sale, with 11 lots offered. These two-year-olds represent his first crop, who have yet to debut on the track. Seventy-five different stallions are being represented this year, including many popular stallions.
Last year's Leading Freshman Sire's race was hot between Drefong(USA) and Silver State(JPN), with the former ultimately coming out on top. With Drefong(USA) getting a classic winner out of his first crop, the three two-year-olds in the sale should be very popular. Silver State(JPN), who was hot on his heels last year and quite popular at the yearling sales, has four lots in the sale.
Established sires like Rulership(JPN) has three, Maurice(JPN) has two, while Epiphaneia(JPN), Kizuna(JPN), and Lord Kanaloa(JPN) all have one lot in the sale.
