2019 Hokkaido Training Sale Preview

The first sale of the year, the 2019 Hokkaido Training Sale is on Tuesday, May 21st in Sapporo, Japan. 248 two-year-olds in training are cataloged this year and will have an exhibition gallop on Monday, May 20th. The horses will be available from Sunday, May 19th for viewing by buyers.

The sale has had great success in the past, producing such champions as six-time G1 winner Maurice(JPN) and three-time G1 winner Hishi Miracle(JPN).

97 different stallions are represented between the 248 entries in this year's sale. Plenty young sires, set to debut this spring will be available including G1 Japan Derby winner Kizuna(JPN), G1 Japan Cup winner Epiphaneia(JPN), dual G1 Tenno Sho Haru winner Fenomeno(JPN), American import and G1 winner Majestic Warrior(USA), G1 Yasuda Kinen winner Real Impact(JPN), six-time G1 winner Gold Ship(JPN), G1 NHK Mile Cup winner Curren Black Hill(JPN), American Import and G1 winner Eskendereya(USA), and G1 Tenno Sho Aki winner Spielberg(JPN), just to name a few.

Several promising sires who have recently made their debut last year have lots available like last year's leading freshman sire Just a Way(JPN), runner up for leading freshman sire Dunkirk(USA), Belshazzar(JPN), To the Glory(JPN) and Grand Prix Boss(JPN).

Many established sires will also be offered at the sale including G1 winners who have sired G1 winners like Admire Moon(JPN), Daiwa Major(JPN), Rulership(JPN), Gold Allure(JPN), Grass Wonder(USA), Henny Hughes(USA), King's Best(USA), Kurofune(USA), Neo Universe(JPN), Orfevre(JPN), Screen Hero(JPN), Swept Overboard(USA), Tanino Gimlet(JPN), and Victoire Pisa(JPN).

The catalog is full of strong pedigrees to research including Hip 57 which is a Screen Hero(JPN) colt who is a half brother to G1 Tenno Sho Haru winner Beat Black(JPN). Hip 65 is a Precise End(USA) colt is a half brother to G3 winner Kinsho Yukihime(JPN). Hip 33 is a Spielberg(JPN) colt out of GB-G1 placed Reach for the Moon(USA) who herself is out of blue hen Chancey Squaw(USA), dam of multiple G1 winner Agnes Digital(USA) and two black-type graded stakes horses. A half-sister to this lot has also gone on to produce a listed winner and contender in 2017's filly classics. Hip 97 is a Kinshasa no Kiseki(AUS) colt out of USA-G1 winner Cash Included(USA). Hip 220 is an Orfevre(JPN) colt out of USA-G2 winner Position Limit(USA). Hip 228 is a Just a Way(JPN) colt out of USA-G3 winner Bully Bones(USA). Hip 237 is a Victoire Pisa(JPN) filly out of three-time USA-G3 winner Bayou's Lassie(USA).

Hip 4 is an Unrivaled(JPN) filly from the family that produced G2 winner & G1 placed Crocosmia(JPN). Hip 8 is a Real Impact(JPN) colt out of Mayano Absolute(JPN), a multiple G3 placed Danehill(USA) mare who won multiple stakes races and has 7 winners from 8 foals of racing age. Hip 29 is an Admire Moon(JPN) colt from the family that produced the Derby-winning filly Vodka(JPN). Hip 32 is a Kinshasa no Kiseki(AUS) filly out of the half-sister to G3 winner Meikei Pega Star(JPN). Hip 34 is a Monterosso(GB) colt out of the half-sister to multiple G1 winners including Real Impact(JPN) and Neorealism(JPN). This colt's dam produced the graded stakes-placed filly Show Way(JPN) in 2014 and most of her full or half-sisters have also gone on to produce black-type winners, including the promising three-year-old filly, A Will a Way(JPN) by Just a Way(JPN) who runs next in the G1 NHK Mile. Hip 47 is a Deep Brillante(JPN) filly out of a half-sister to G3 winner Fleet Street(JPN). Hip 55 is an Orfevre(JPN) colt out of a half-sister to G1 Oka Sho(Japanese 1000 Guineas) winner Kiss to Heaven(JPN). Hip 56 is a Henny Hughes(USA) colt out of a full sister to Antonio Barows(JPN) who finished third in the G1 Japanese Derby. Hip 71 is a Furioso(JPN) filly out of a half-sister to G3 winner Roi Jardin(JPN) and two other black type winners.

Hip 72 is a Danon Go Go(USA) colt from the family responsible for G1 Queen Elizabeth II Cup winner Fusaichi Pandora(JPN) who was the dam of superstar and 5 time G1 winning Horse of the Year Almond Eye(JPN). Hip 99 is a To the World(JPN) filly from the family of G3 winner and multiple graded stakes-placed Black Spinel(JPN). Hip 102 is a World Ace(JPN) filly from the family that produced G1 Satsuki Sho(Japanese 2000 Guineas) winner Dee Majesty(JPN), FR-G1 winner Sobetsu(GB) and G2 winner, G1 placed Tower of London(JPN). Hip 141 is an Epiphaneia(JPN) filly who is a half-sister to G3 winner Stalk and Ray(JPN). Hip 164 is a Transcend(JPN) colt out of Tie Talk(USA) who has produced three black-type winners to date. Hip 177 is a Roses in May(USA) filly from the family of top sire Stay Gold(JPN), G1 winner Shonan Pandora(JPN) and four other graded stakes winners in the third dam. Hip 186 is a Daiwa Major(JPN) filly out of a half-sister to top dirt sire South Vigorous(USA). Hip 194 is a Rulership(JPN) colt out of a half-sister to Champion Two-Year-Old Filly Robe Tissage(JPN). Hip 209 is an Epiphaneia(JPN) colt out of a half-sister to G1 winner Persian Knight(JPN).
