Japan Scores Fourth Win in the Hong Kong QEII Cup!

09 May, 2017

Japanese-bred NEOREALISM (6-y-o Horse by Neo Universe) reigned supreme against top competitors from Hong Kong, Australia and France in the Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup (G1, 2000m Turf, Total Prizemoney HK$20,000,000) held on April 30 at Sha Tin Racecourse in Hong Kong. Ridden by star jockey João Moreira, who kept him in the back for the relatively leisurely paced first half of the race, NEOREALISM quickened to move forward from around the 1,000m mark and swiftly took the lead to earn the first G1 win of his career.

This is the fourth win by a Japanese horse in the prestigious race, following EISHIN PRESTON's wins in 2001 and 2003 and RULERSHIP's win in 2012.

It is exciting news indeed for Japanese breeding to see a Japanese-bred horse victorious in a major Hong Kong race so soon after the triumphs by MAURICE (Hong Kong Cup, Total Prizemoney HK$25,000,000) and SATONO CROWN (Hong Kong Vase, Total Prizemoney HK$16,500,000) in the Longines Hong Kong International Races last December.
