Japanese Champion Miler MAURICE added another brilliant victory to his resume when he competed against top horses from Hong Kong, Australia and the UAE in the Champions Mile (Int-G1) on May 1. MAURICE started the race well by keeping an easy pace in fourth place, then responded well to Jockey J. Moreira's signal and accelerated beautifully in the stretch with about 300m left. He almost made the win look easy, crossing the goal post by a two-length margin.
This is MAURICE's second consecutive G1 victory in Hong Kong, following the Longines Hong Kong Mile on December 13 last year. Including his wins in Japan, MAURICE has now won four consecutive international G1 mile races since last June, making him the undisputed mile turf champion in the world. His current earnings total over US$ 5,500,000.
MAURICE (by Screen Hero (JPN)) was sold as a yearling at the Hokkaido Summer Sale for US$13,000, then was sold again the following year at the Hokkaido Training Sale of 2-year-olds for US$86,620. Many such exciting racehorse prospects are waiting for you at the Hokkaido Sales!
