Another G1 victory for Japan in Dubai

28 March, 2016

REAL STEEL wins the Dubai Turf (Int-G1)!

Dubai World Cup Day, which marks the end of the Dubai Racing Carnival, was held this year on March 26 at Meydan Racecourse, and once again, top horses from around the world gathered for a day of superb racing. The Dubai Turf (Int-G1, 1,800m Turf, Winning prizemoney US$3,600,000) saw a field of strong contenders based locally in Dubai as well as from England, South Africa, USA and Japan.

Japanese-bred REAL STEEL kept in the middle of the pack for much of the race and responded well when prompted by jockey Ryan Moore heading into the stretch. Once he took the lead at about 250m from the finish line, he kept going strong in front to claim the race. Japanese horses have now triumphed in 29 overseas G1 races.

In the Dubai Sheema Classic (Int-G1, 2,410m Turf) held on the same day, another Japanese-bred DURAMENTE put in a valiant effort to come in second, demonstrating the depth of talent among Japanese Thoroughbreds.
